Spartans 2-1 Duns Under 15’s

15s Narrowly defeated in the Capital

Duns FC 15s went up to Broughton High School to face Spartans in the Scottish cup. On a very hot day Spartans started the game the more lively team and got of to a good start scoring with a shot from distance that floated into the top corner giving Jordan Patterson no chance .
But the Duns squad never gave up with Ross Hutchinson coming close hitting the side netting , good link up play between Toby Aitchison and Mo Ponton sent Warren Hutton through on goal but he shot narrowly wide . Kieran Swinney and Zak Todd also causing problems for Spartans down the left sending Reece in on goal only to flick the ball past the defender and catch his hand but the referee failed to spot this through a crowd of players.
With a back three of Fraser Bunyan , Liam Horn and Niall Richards keeping it tight at the back Duns took control of the Game and created countless chances but went in 1-0 down at half time .
Duns came out for the second half fired up and went close again with shots from Reece Bowling and Matt Paterson coming close .
With Duns pressuring Spartans goal a long clearance was pounced on by Spartans striker to make it 2-0 .
Duns heads never dropped as they never deserved to be 2 goals down . Ewan Feeney and Aidian Dixon liked well on right hand side sending Reece in on goal again.
Some good pressing play from Duns put the Spartans under pressure and Matt Paterson winning the ball and passing to Warren who shot and scored only for the referee to pull back play and award Spartans the foul.
With Dylan Wood back in midfield linking up with Kerion put in Warren again who fired in a shot that Spartans keeper could not handal and spilled over the line .
Duns were very much back in the game creating chance after chance but could not get the all important goal that would have sent tie to extra time .
The referee blew for full time to the relief of Spartans and a dejected Duns team.
Very proud of the boys performance today , every player gave 100% effort if only we had been more clinical in front of goal Duns 15s would have been progressing to next round, good luck to Spartans for the rest of the cup.
With league fixtures starting next week the Duns lads will be looking to bounce back.
