Lothian Thistle 5-4 Duns

In a captivating game last night at the rather curious Saughton Enclosure (reminded this writer of an Easter European sports arena which had seen better days, as most of them have actually) Duns lost out to the odd goal in nine. Although, make no mistake a point would have been fair against the league champions who demonstrated their relief at the end with their last kick winner all be it in a  less than dignified manner.

The Dingers took the lead in 22 minutes as George Windram bundled the ball over the line after a goalmouth scramble. Duns continued to play well but a very unfortunate own goal contributed to the home sides 2-1 half time lead.

Not long into the second half and the score was 3-1 with any hope of anything riding swiftly over the Western Edinburgh horizon. Que a comback with goals from Kieran Lee and Sean Robertson pulling us level.  Thistle went ahead again but epitimising the never say die attitude of the visitors Luke Strangeways equalised for the second time in the 84th minute.

A point looked a just return for a hugely improved performance but from somewhere the referee found several minutes of stoppage time and with their last kick the home side found the winner.

The antics of the home manager towards the visiting committee could only be believed if seen after the whistle, but seen it was and will live long in the minds of those present. Dear oh dear Mr Carr dear dear…….
