Hawick Legion Rovers 3-3 Duns

With four games of this seasons league campaign left to play and Duns AFC requiring 6 points to secure promotion, the Dingers travelled to Hawick to begin the search for the first of them. Playing downhill Duns again started with a back four that had not played together. With three key defenders missing it was to prove costly. And that task became even more difficult when left back Lackenby had to be substituted after 8 minutes. Hawick had most of the early play although didn’t threaten with any efforts on goal. On 17 minutes a goalward bound shot from Ponton was tipped round the post and from the resultant corner Brydon sneaked in at the near post to guide the header over the keeper to the far side of the net.. Although ahead Duns didn’t capitalise on their lead and in 33 minutes a defensive mannequin moment from a Hawick corner saw the hosts equalise.
Two minutes later Feeney coming in from the right put Duns ahead with a narrow angled strike. Again Duns failed to hold on to their lead and from another set piece of play Hawick drew level on the half time whistle.
After some strong words from manager Hudson and a change in attitude the Dingers took all of 10 minutes to add their third with Robertson beating the offside trap and strike the ball past the advancing keeper. On the hour Renton replaced Burns and a slight shuffle in the line up brought Robertson back to a defensive position. With Hawick again seeming the more determined to win the game their reward came in the 81st minute when another mannequin impersonation from the Duns defence saw the equaliser. the final minutes saw play go from end to end with no real threat of another goal. One point from the 6 required, could well be until the final game to see if promotion is going to be achieved. Visits to Selkirk and Kelso and a home game against Lauder are going to be a test of the Dingers strength.
