Eyemouth United 3-4 Duns

A pulsating breath taking game on the Berwickshire coast this afternoon saw the Dingers come from behind to register a first league win there since 1959! For most of the first half play went back and forth with both sides carving out chances to no avail. On 40 minutes a neat cross into the middle saw James Brydon strike a sweet shot to put the Dingers ahead. 45 minutes came and went due in the main to time added on for an earlier knock to Michael Robinson and in the 6th minutes of stoppage time the home team ,who were in a very determined mood at that stage, drew level.

The second half opened to really dull overhead conditions and within 9 minutes Duns has managed to concede two further goals and make things even duller for the visitors. At that point this writer observed a collective lowering of heads and seriously wondered where redemption would come from. However my next meal was to be humble pie as first Martyn Tait (55) and a minute later trialist Des Chisholm put us back level.  Guts and determination were fast becoming evident at this stage for the Duns lads as the game became increasingly physical. Then on 68 minutes what was unthinkable 12 minutes earlier happened. Martyn Tait registered his second to put us in the lead.

From there till the end the game continued to be a closely fought bruising encounter with the referee managing to find another 4 minutes of added time to keep the collective Duns hearts firmly on edge as the home side never gave up. When the ref did actually blow the roar from the away dugout must have been heard at the Ship as the win which moves us of the bottom of the table was celebrated. All the lads today showed a pride in the red and black shirts and got their just desserts.
