Duns end with a flourish

Duns ended their league season with an emphatic win over their visitors Linton Hotspur. On a beautiful sunny afternoon at NHP and on Sponsors day the spectators were served a treat.

Almost like saving the best for last the Dingers played some of their best football of the season, playing fluent football and to their credit Linton adopting the same tactics it was almost on the 40 minute mark before official Bowers had to blow his whistle for a foul.
Creating plenty chances in the first half that included hitting the woodwork it was level at half time.

In a 10 minute spell at the restart Duns were three up, first on the score sheet was 16 year old Liam Demarco, picked the ball up just inside the Linton half and drove towards goal dispatching the ball with expertise beyond his years.

Sean Robertson added a second after a great run down the left by Ross Hutchison who crossed the ball over for Robertson to slide in at the far post.
His second and Duns third came soon after when he drove home from 16 yards giving the visiting keeper no chance.

Central midfielder Stewart Liddell got his name on the score sheet with a well taken header from a set piece.

Liam Demarco scored his second and The Dingers 5th with a delicately placed chip into the top corner from six yard out.

It has been a nail biting season with Duns having three points until the Christmas break.
After the festive break the stats were played 12 won seven drew 1 lost four, and that was to the top four teams who all won by the odd goal.

Well done to all players who contributed over the season, all acquitting themselves well and achieving the objective of consolidating and remaining in BAFL Division B. And to the coaching staff of James Brydon, Keith Wilson and Jamie Lackenby, who now look forward to next season.

Next Saturday 12th Duns are away to Gordon in a Waddell cup semi final, winners of that tie will play either Chirnside or Hawick Waverly at Happer Park Greenlaw.

Duns would like to thank Greave West and Ayre for sponsoring the match ball
