Duns edged out in first friendly of the season

Duns played their first pre-season friendly against a newly formed Leith United containing experienced EOS players that included Paul Tansey ex Duns EOS goalkeeper.

With the exception of Kevin Simpson, Sean Spoors and Rob Anderson the average age of the remaining Dingers was 18.

Duns did not get off to the best of starts finding themselves 3 down in 25 minutes with keeper Anderson being kept busy bringing of a string of fine saves.
This never seems to phase a resilient Duns team who always fight back, and they got their reward with a fine strike from new signing Dylan Patterson who looks like a very worthy addition to the squad with a fine display throughout the 90 minutes.

Duns went into the break at 3 – 1 down but the young Dingers were level within 15 minutes of the restart when Sean Robertson went through the Leith defence only to see his shot at the open goal hand balled by the Leith defender who, despite it being a friendly probably should have seen a red card instead of the yellow he was shown, Robertson stepped up to fire the penalty in the top of the net and Ross Hutchison tapping in to put the Dingers.

Play swung from end to end and further great stops from keeper Rob Anderson in the Duns goal could not prevent the visitors from adding another 2 goals.

Still Duns attacked and again a goal from Ross Hutchison, latching onto a through ball from Patterson, saw the score difference pegged back to one goal.

Duns should have been level when Sean Robertson broke twice, twice hitting the post and youngster Callum Smith saw his volley rebound of the crossbar.

Some very good performances from a young Duns side that today had several players missing, with Top scorer for the last two seasons Sean Robertson suspended for the first four games, Ross Hutchison with 2 goals today could well give Sean some competition for the top scorer accolade at the end of the season.

A lot of promise was shown in this their first game of the season which hopefully can be taken into pre-season game 2 away Hall Hill to face Dunbar Athletic Amateurs Kick off 7pm
