Duns dominate at Dunbar

Duns travelled to Dunbar for their second Pre-season friendly.

Heading up the road with a 21 man squad with no less than 17 of those players under the age of 24.

With a change to formation Duns started the game in a 4 – 3 – 3, however even with the extra man in defence they found themselves 1 down after just 8 mins.

An attack down the left from the Dunbar winger saw him catch the back four on the hop finding space to fire a cross into the centre of the box evading the centre halves, it didn’t miss the Dunbar striker who scored with a spectacular overhead kick.

Going on down seemed to be the catalyst for Duns to get the ball down and start playing football.
When they did they looked the far better team with Dunbar struggling to contain the young Duns team.

Duns finally got there rewards after 18 mins when Brydon got himself onto the end of a bad clearance from the Dunbar keeper, Brydon slotted the ball passed the keeper to give Duns the deserved equaliser.

Duns controlled the game with their passing football and despite chances went into half time with the scores level.

The start of second half saw Duns come out with an even younger line up than the first half after making 7 changes.

The pace and fitness of the young squad was beginning to wear the Dunbar team down and another solid display from Dylan Patterson in the centre of midfield saw Duns’ confidence grown and they began to dominate even more of the possession.

It wasn’t long before Duns again found the back of the net when youngster Callum Smith picked up the ball 20 yards out took one touch and curled a fine effort into the top corner leaving the Dunbar keeper with no chance.

With a forward line of Ross Hutchison, Kieran Swinney and Billy Short giving an average age of 17 they certainly caused problems for their more experienced opponents.

Duns added a third when Ross Hutchison after several good attempts outpaced the Dunbar defence and duly dispatched with a shot into the top corner.

Another good work out for the Dingers who continue their pre-season Wed 1st August Chirnside playing Lauder in the Matt Simpson Memorial Cup.

Winners of that game go on to the final to face either Chirnside or Kelso Thistle.
