Duns 3-0 Hawick Royal Albert

The game kicked off under blue sky’s with virtually no wind  and unlike the previous Wednesday an almost mild temperature.  Early sparring took place as the somewhat changed line ups of both sides tested each other out.  First real effort came after 16 minutes from Mark Westherburn whose 25 yard effort was tipped over in a great save from the Albert keeper.  Three minutes later Stevie Shennan had his own goal bound effort from the left just saved as the visiting keeper got a hand to it.

The visitors first real effort came after 32 minutes with a shot from 10 yards which was well saved by Tansey.  A minute later another effort went just wide of Tanseys left hand upright. On 35 minutes referee Doyle showed yellow to the visiting number 8. With only five minutes remaining till the break Michael Robinson broke the deadlock for the home side.

First real action of the second period came after 55 minutes when Stevie Shennan blasted an effort just wide.  A minute later the same man headed narrowly over from a corner out on the left. With 65 minutes gone Jordan Lauder doubled Duns advantage heading home from a Shennan back header in the box.  Nine minutes later the visitors showd themselves to be still dangerous with a long range effort which was well saved by Tansey.

With 77 minutes on the clock the visitors were again on the attack requiring a great saving tackle from Ryan Burns. Only 5 minutes later that man Shennan took the ball in from the right side stepping a defender and slotting the ball away for his 19th league goal of the campaign.  With only 4 minutes remaing Michael Robinson had to leave the field carrying a knock to be replaced by veteran Colin Gracey.  In the final act of the match manager Hudson replaced trialist Jamie Pav with another veteran Alan Trickett. The teams average age at this stage had been substantially raised.

A good solid win sees the Dingers back in contention courtesy of defeats elsewhere for Heriot Watt and Ormistion. On to Whitestone park next Wednesday now to face the recently crowned division champions.
