Duns 2-8 Spartans

After a near monsoon forenoon the weather cleared and the New Hawthorn Park drainage kicked in meaning by kick off time we had perfect playing conditions and a perfect playing surface.  As befits this time of the season, we have never commenced earlier than this,  players at this level seem to find a bizarre numbers of things to do away from the green baize so manager Hudson presented a squad comprising first team, reserves and trialists.

The game was dominated in the most part by our higher level visitors who demonstrated crisp accurate passing and some great runs from deep which in fairness we struggled to cope with on a number of occasions.

Our first goal was a delightful accurate strike from Conor Devaney who curled the ball round a defensive wall from a free kick. The second a spectacular 25 yard strike from Wooler based trialist Luke Strangeways who really caught the eye with this effort.

Well beaten on the days our lads ran out of steam as our Edinburgh visitors eased to a comfortable victory under clear  blue sky’s.  The manager was not unhappy with his teams efforts against superior opposition and now looks ahead to next Saturdays encounter.
